Anv.: Head of Tanit to left, wearing a triple pendant earring, a necklace, tied at the back and hung with eight pendants, and a wreath of grain leaves. Rev.: Horse standing to right; pellets below the horse on the right and just before the left fore hoof; in exergue, punic inscription-like pattern. Au. 9,37 g. Nice color. Traces of luster. Very rare. Almost XF.

Lot 1054 - Roman Republican
CN·COR and Publius Cornelius dolabella series. Unit. 120-115 BC. Hispania. (Craw-81/1). (T.V. Buttrey-NC 1964, pp. 125/8). Anv.: Laureate head of Janus; above, I mark of value. Rev.: Prow of galley to right, above CN·COR, before axe; in exergue ROMA. Ae. 28,01 g. Exceedingly rare, only very few specimens known. The series with the dolabella, together with the as of Cn. Cor., were previously dated to 211-208 and attributed to Sicily. They are, in fact, struck in Spain between 130-128 and, together with the Sex. Iuli as, which is contemporary and also struck in Spain, represent the restart of the coinage of the as after a break in the issuing of this denomination after 145. The Sex. Ivli and Cn. Cor/Dolabella series were, up until the last twenty years, known in only a very few specimens, and thought to be unofficial issues.
Porosities and cleaning lines on the obverse. Original earthy patina on the reverse. Only two examples in Acsearch. Almost VF/VF.

Septimius Severus. Denarius. 200-201 AD. Rome. (Ric-IV 167a var.). (Bmcre-203 var.). (Rsc-599 var.). Anv.: SEVERVS AVG PART MAX, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right. Rev.: RESTITVTOR VRBIS, emperor standing to left, sacrificing out of patera over tripod and holding spear. Ag. 3,39 g. We have not found any references to this type of bust, nor to other examples auctioned. Extremely rare. Almost XF/Choice VF.
