He was born the 11th of April of 146 a.C., in the North African town of Leptis Magna. Under the reign of Marcus Aurelius, he joined the roman Senate and also served as an officer in the army under the orders of General Pertinax. The assassination of Commodus, in January 193 a.C., caused, that his former boss Pertinax, raised to the throne; but three months later he was eliminated by the Praetorians who sold the throne to Didio Juliano. The people managed to depose Juliano, moment that Severus, leveraged with the endorsment of three legions which he led in a quick march to Rome, to easily eliminate Juliano. Soon he obtained the recognition from the Senate as the legitimate emperor. Severus, a restless man and unceasing traveler, applied an expansive politic based in conquest. Both armies took part in several battles until year 209 a.C. with no decisive victories. Very weakened by gout, Severus went to retire in Eboracum (York), where he died on February 4th of 211 A.C. at the age of 65.
